Suffolk Creating the Greenest County Awards

Suffolk Creating the Greenest County Awards

We are delighted to announce that Alison Plumridge, Director of Bury St Edmunds Art Gallery, collected two prizes at the 'Suffolk Creating the Greenest County Awards', held at Wantisden Valley on 18th March.

Vice Chairman, Andrew Denny, presented Alison with the award for 'The Green Business Hero' for her leadership in reducing and recycling waste, cutting transport miles and improving energy efficiency.  She's not finished yet as Alison is buzzing with ideas to improve the efficiency and environmental impact of her business and is a real inspiration to others.  The Art Gallery itself won the award for 'Best Building' having achieved a 50% reduction in waste and a cut of 24% in energy use.

Benson Blakes Bar Ltd, in St John's Street, was a nominee in the 'Greenest Pub' category but was just pipped at the post by the White Horse Inn.

Owner Steve Blake explained that the pub had made dramatic savings in its energy use by replacing its heating system, hot water boiler and light bulbs.  Improvements to waste management, water usage and recycling also helped to reduce costs and, of course, the pub's impact on the environment.  Steve is proud of what has been achieved in Benson Blakes and no doubt will be a serious contender in next year's awards.

Well done to both businesses!
